This really is a brilliant player. Yes the interface and the layout and style is not as good as Apples' Ipods but is not far off. First of all the voice recorder is absolutely brilliant. You can record sounds with pin-sharp clarity. I even recorded a track off my Hi-Fi and used the recorded sound as a means to listen to the track and it was almost as good as mp3 quality-something that cannot be done with an Ipod. The sound quality on the actual mp3 tracks is also as good as Ipods (if not better!). A real big plus though is that it stores so much more than Ipods with less memory. On an 8GB Ipod you can store 2000 songs, whereas on this little beauty you can store 3000 songs on only 6GB's! The touch sensitive strip for navigation is also a real pleasure to use (and very easy). It is also designed so that the LED'S light up as your finger moves up and down. The only down side is that the screen is slightly too small and is not as good a quality as Ipods. However this mp3 player does not support video files so its got nothing to lose! Bottom line save yourself some money and opt for this over an Ipod as its different, stores more songs with less memory and is a joy to use (with the added feature of an excellent voice-recorder). Taking all this into account it really is a better player than the Ipod Nano. Buy this mp3 player, its the right choice! -- Brilliant little player!!!!
I have to say that this is one tougth bit of kit! I've worn mine on a motorbike, in all weathers, for the past 2 years without fauilt. I've even recently stuck it in the washin machine by accident - and she still plays!!!! (Although the battery is not what it used to be)
My only criticism is that there aren't enough random/shuffle patterns.
Highly recommended! -- Highly Durable
I bought this as a replacement for a flash-drive style mp3 player as i had too much music for it. At first things were going fine - except for the fact that the pictures would not load onto the device. This immediately rendered the choice of mp3 player useless as i could have bought one without picture capability for less.
Nevertheless I pushed on and transfered my meagre collection of 200 or so songs onto it. As mentioned it worked fine, loadfing times were fast and I could browse the library by artist, album or song while already listening to music. I was only 17 (I may have discovered music late I know) and didn't have much of a collection.
But then I got thirsty for more. I filled the player progressively faster and faster. When i reached about 400 songs (only about 1.5G full) the 'issues' happened. It froze for the first time, transition times between menus became agonisingly slow: I counted no less than a minute when I became frustrated just getting it to go into 'playlists'. It also scrolled through the song painfully slow and if it was any slower at loading the music itself it would have gone in reverse.
After a year it died.
I wanted to get another, maybe this one was a 'faulty model' so i remembered the warranty and battled the Philips customer services (so sloppy and poorly organized) to get a new one. This eventually was posted and i waited for a month. Called them again to say the postie had lifted it and ended up in another firefight about it. They sent the other soon though, and it arrived in a week or so.
As soon as it had arrived i was upstairs transferring my music (which had grown another hundred since - so about 600 songs) and lo and behold it took forever. When this was finished i turned it on and the slow menus, slow transitions and slow loading were miraculously...still there. But as I got this mp3 player free as a replacement it made sense to forget it and use it til it died or i needed more space. When my collection got to 800 or so it frequently crashed as the previous one had and i had to delete and replace everything numerous times which took from 45m to an hour.
Just recently it died. I was annoyed at first but quickly realised that that there were plenty of better alternatives, times had changed, and I'm now looking into this Sony NWZA818 8GB Video Walkman - seems like a great deal but I'll read the reviews first.
But I'd still rather have another one of these than an ipod. -- So dissapointingly unreliable
I bought this mp3 player after quite a bit of resarch. I didn't want an ipod and yet I wanted a played which fitted all my requirments. This mp3 player is sleek and sexy and has easy control but there are a few bad points:
I can't get pictures on my player
album art doesn't show up
the headphones supplied don't fit in my ears properly
the player can freeze
can be quite slow, especially the touch control
good points are:
easy to use
fast at uploading music DO MANUAL NOT AUTOMATIC
sleek and sexy player
clear screen
can use volume control when player is on hold
This isn't the best player in the world. If I were to do it again I would do some more research. -- Not the best out there
I had this for about 6 months and it probly hung at least once a month and i had to reformat and add all my music again. Now after 6 months it doesnt work at all, I get the "connect player to pc" error but neither windows or philips device manager will recognize it now. I tried everything i can think of and called philips 2 times but they are no help at all. Poor customer service. Also no point in even tryin to view pics on here as you can hardly see them. Says it holds up to 3000 songs but have only been able to fit about 1200. Battery life is ok but not real good. The charger+usb cable is a dumb idea, id rather have em seperate. The player is real slow and lags. songs load slow and slow to navigate especially when u have more than probly 900 songs, when u do it is almost impossible to use some features like the recorder or some options. overall i would NOT recommend this player to anyone. -- DONT BUY THIS!
